Recreation Research Assistant for National Visitor Use Monitoring Program

The University of Tennessee is the implementing partner for the Visitor Use Monitoring Programs on the Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana and Ouachita and Ozark National Forests in Arkansas. Through this program the National Forests assess the intensity and types of recreation that occurs at specific National Forest locations.

We are seeking field workers to help gather data. The positions are a good fit for an active retiree, self-employed person, or individual seeking to gain experience in recreation assessment. The positions are part-time, and the hours are variable. A workday is typically 8-9 hours long, including time to travel to the forest location. Weekend work is necessary, but there is some flexibility in scheduling. Work occurs at various recreation sites in the National Forests, and field team members must have their own vehicle to get to the sites. Living near one of the forests is essential. Willingness to talk to visitors to the forest also is essential.

Hourly wage and reimbursement of travel expenses are provided. Email statement of interest and résumé to Susan Schexnayder at schexnayder@utk.edu.
