Dendrology Professor David Buckley passed away on Sunday, June 1. Dave joined the School of Natural Resources, formerly the Department of Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries, in 1998. He taught hundreds of students during his tenure, mentored many graduate students and was known as one of their favorite instructors. He also conducted research in dendrology and forest ecology.

Dave served as the faculty advisor for the UT Forestry Club-Student Chapter of the Society of American Foresters for more than 20 years, which was a great passion of his.

His obituary is available on the Smith Funeral and Cremation Service website.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 6, from 4-6 p.m. at the Smith Funeral Home at 1402 Tuckaleechee Pike, Maryville, Tenn., with a service to follow. A private burial will be held at a later date in Plover, Wis.

The family asks people to make donations to the Society of American Foresters in Dave’s name.

Dave was not only a hard-working colleague but also a treasured friend. He will be sorely missed by faculty, staff, students, alumni, friends and family.
