The UT Student Chapter of the Society of American Foresters sent 10 students to the 65th Association of Southern Forestry Clubs (ASFC) Conclave hosted by the University of Florida in Micanopy, Fla from March 14-17.
The team competed in 15 physical events including crosscut sawing, bow sawing, and log chopping and eight technical events including dendrology, compass and pacing, and timber estimation.
UT senior Michael Radford earned second place in pole felling, team captain Haley Snyder placed third in women’s bow sawing, and Ricky Davis earned second place in pole classification. The team also placed fourth in men’s bow sawing, women’s crosscut sawing, and wildlife ID out of 13 teams.
Faculty advisers Drs. Stephen Peairs and David Buckley say they were impressed by the students’ dedication to preparing for their events and look forward to watching many of the same students build on their experience for next year’s Conclave at Alabama A&M.
