The School of Natural Resources and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service co-hosted the International Oak Symposium Oct. 7—10 at the Hilton Knoxville.

The three-day event focused on the management and ecology of oak species and forests. It included speakers, presentations, discussion panels and socials. Former Knoxville Poet Laureate and long-time local singer-songwriter R.B. Morris performed during the opening session along with other local acts Jeff Barbra and Sarah Pirkle and Jay Clark. The Bearded, a traditional bluegrass band, performed at an evening reception and social.

Attendees also selected a tour of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Catoosa Wildlife Management Area near Crossville or the UT Forest Resources AgResearch and Education Center in Oak Ridge.
