Team Tennessee delivered an outstanding performance at the 2026 National 4-H Shooting Sports Championships, held June 22–26 in Grand Island, Nebraska.

They competed against more than 700 of the nation’s top youth athletes from 4-H Shooting Sports programs across the U.S. “Tennessee’s National Shotgun Team showcased the talent, determination, and sportsmanship that define the Volunteer State,” 4-H Shotgun Coach and Outdoor Recreation Extension Specialist Ronnie Cowan says.

Brayden Broyles of Greene County, Tristin Peterson of Sevier County, and Jesse Walters of Sevier County represented Tennessee. They earned a top five finish in trap. Broyles also earned an outstanding fourth place in individual trap. “After an early equipment malfunction forced him to switch to his backup shotgun, he persevered through adversity to finish among the nation’s elite,” Cowan says.

Cowan adds, “This accomplishment reflects far more than success on the range. It represents years of dedication from the athletes, countless hours invested by county 4-H programs, certified volunteer instructors, coaches, and the unwavering support of parents and families who made the journey to the national stage possible.”

The Tennessee 4-H Shooting Sports Program continues to develop young leaders by teaching responsibility, teamwork, discipline, safe firearm handling, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to Brayden, Tristin, Jesse, and everyone who helped Team Tennessee achieve this outstanding accomplishment!
